For your assignment you analyze the impact of any recent social and/or ethical trends on the health care industry. Discuss at least two issues.

As health care leaders, it is important to understand that health care is quite a dynamic field. Its constant changes are a result of continuing trends in regulation, policy, patient and provider advocacy efforts, as well as increasingly sophisticated technology and industry benchmarking guidelines.

For your assignment you analyze the impact of any recent social and/or ethical trends on the health care industry. Discuss at least two issues.

For this assignment, focus on a specific contemporary trend in health care and be sure to include all of the following influences:

  • Changes in client characteristics
  • Regulation of the health care industry
  • Reimbursement patterns and mandates
  • Restructuring of health care organizations
  • Impact of technology
  • Ongoing social and ethical factors

AIDress the information above as it pertains to your selected topic, in an eight to ten slide (excluding title and reference slides) PowerPoint presentation.

Your presentation should conclude with a summary describing the following concerns:

  • Overall, why should health care managers be aware of this change and trend?
  • What impact does this trend have on the stakeholder groups involved (e.g., patients, providers, administrators, third-party payers, legislators, etc.) for a specific organization specified (e.g., for profit, nonprofit, hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, etc.).

The information in this presentation will later be used as part of your Senior Project to set the context for the audience you select for a training program on the contemporary trend identified here.

Your presentation must include detailed speaker’s notes (i.e., at least 150 words) for each slide as well as a minimum of one to two scholarly sources from the Ashford University Library and one to two current, scholarly web sources.

Your presentation, and any citations used, must be in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Examples of scholarly web sources are available in this week’s recommended websites. These sources will also count toward the required sources for your Senior Project. Your presentation must be engaging and relevant to your audience. Lines of text on a slide will not be sufficient for this assignment. It should contain images, graphics, and/or multimedia that communicate your training program clearly to your audience.

Identify the existing literature that questions the utility of CISM and CISD and offer your opinion on this debate.

CISD

Critical incident stress debriefing (CISD) is a part of CISM, which was developed to assist in managing the aftermath of traumatic experiences within organizations and communities. It is not psychotherapy and is not intended to replace psychotherapy. CISD is typically conducted within a few days of a critical incident to assist those exposed to the incident process and deal with what they have been exposed to. CISD has specific steps and requires a person to be trained to conduct it competently, but it does not require a mental health background.

Tasks:

Using the module’s readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research the CISD process.

Create a 6- to 7-page paper responding to the following:

  • Summarize CISM and CISD.
  • Discuss the relevant literature on the efficacy of CISM and CISD.
  • Identify the existing literature that questions the utility of CISM and CISD and offer your opinion on this debate.
  • Compare and contrast CISD and psychological first aid (PFA).
  • Discuss how peer-provided support can be maximized in a traumatic response situation. Give reasons in support of your response. Be sure to cite any relevant resources.

APA FORMAT AT LEAST 3 INTEXT CITATIONS.

In your analysis, explain the policy issue, assess the funding situation, and analyze the impact of insufficient funding on stakeholders.

Budgetary Priorities

The president and the Congress identify budgetary priorities by the level of funding appropriated to aIDress those public policy problems.  In a two- to three- page paper (not including title and references pages), identify and analyze a specific public policy problem that has not received sufficient funding from Washington or from your state. Consider an issue such as health care, education, veterans’ care, foreign aid, or job training programs. In your analysis, explain the policy issue, assess the funding situation, and analyze the impact of insufficient funding on stakeholders.

Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide and should cite at least one scholarly source in aIDition to the textbook.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Developing a Professional Portfolio in Nursing

Marilyn H. Oermann

A professional portfolio is a collection of care fully selected materials that document the nurse’s competencies and illustrate the expertise of the nurse. Since a portfolio is developed over time, it also provides a way of monitoring professional development. By periodically reviewing the portfolio, nurses can assess their progress in meeting personal and professional goals and can better plan their careers in nursing. This article describes professional portfolios, their uses in nursing, and how to develop and maintain one.

Marilyn H. Oermann, PhD, RN, FAAN, is a professor in the College of Nursing at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

All nurses should maintain a professional portfolio to reflect on their own devel-opment of knowledge and skills over time, present evidence of competencies, and market themselves when apply-ing for career laIDer positions or new jobs in nursing. A professional portfolio contains materials that document the nurse’s competencies and experiences and illustrate the career path of the nurse. Artists, photographers, designers, and other professionals use portfolios to showcase their work for clients and potential employers. Portfolios in nurs-ing accomplish the same purpose €”they showcase the nurse’s background and expertise for others to review. This article describes professional portfolios, their uses in nursing, and how to develop and maintain one.

Professional Portfolios

A professional portfolio is a compila-tion of carefully selected materials that

document the nurse’s competencies. The materials placed in a portfolio illustrate the background, skills, and expertise of the nurse (Trossman, 1999). The portfolio also provides a way of monitoring the nurse’s own professional development. By periodi-cally reviewing the portfolio, nurses can assess their progress in meeting personal and professional goals and can better plan their careers in nursing. The portfolio does not replace the resume or curriculum vitae, but pro-vides information not available from these alone. A resume and curriculum vitae list the educational institutions attended, the positions held, and other background information about the nurse. The portfolio provides evi-dence of the competencies and expertise of the nurse developed as a result of these experiences.

Types of Portfolios

There are two types of portfolios, best-work and growth and development (Gaberson & Oermann, 1999; Oer-mann & Gaberson, 1998). Best-work portfolios provide evidence of the nurse’s competencies and expertise. These portfolios are used as documen-tation for career laIDer promotions, job applications, annual performance reviews, accreditations, initial and continuing certification, and situa-tions in which other people will be reviewing the portfolio. These portfo-lios contain carefully selected materi-als that are organized, labeled, and prepared for review by others. Growth and development portfo-lios are designed for nurses to monitor

Assessing and Planning Care for an Elderly Person (5 pgs)

In order to gain an insight into the world of elder adults, it is important to understand how they view themselves and the values they hold. AIDitionally it is important to assess and determine his/her needs and establish appropriate interventions for this individual.

Choose an older adult to interview. This cannot be a patient in your clinical setting. You can use a friend, family member, or co-worker. The older adult should be 65 years or older. Use the format provided to record the responses. A list of questions is available for you to start with. Include 2–3 questions of your own to get a complete picture of the older adult. Summarize your findings and also contrast the responses with findings in your readings and other current literature.

Attached patient questionnaire should be used as an example.

After gaining permission, conduct a physical and mental functional assessment of the older adult you have chosen. Review your readings for the process of functional assessment.

Make use of the tools discussed this week to complete a comprehensive assessment of your patient. Search the Internet for resources on these tools.

  1. Tinetti Balance and Gait Evaluation
  2. Katz Index of Activities of Daily Living
  3. Assessment of Home Safety
  4. The Barthel Index

Make sure the older adult is clearly identified on the tools. Do not include their name, but do include professional or other designation, and age. Your name should also be identified on the tool. (This should be a part of your Appendix.)

Compare and contrast the age-related changes of the older person you interviewed and assessed with those identified in this week’s reading assignment. During this data analysis process provide at least 4–6 preliminary issues that you have identified. Identify three alterations in health that you would propose and describe them. Identify a minimum of three comprehensive interventions for each problem.

Make sure that you integrate personal cultural awareness and cultural competency.

Paper should be 5 pgs, not including the questionnaire or tools used. These should be attached as an Appendix. Remember to use headings to identify the different sections in your paper.
